Licence Classes

Licence Classes in the Northern Territory

The following national driver licence classes apply:

• 'C' (car) licence
• 'LR' (light rigid) vehicle licence
• 'MR' (medium rigid) vehicle licence
• 'HR' (heavy rigid) vehicle licence
• 'HC' (heavy combination) vehicle
• 'MC' (multi-combination) vehicle licence
• 'R' (rider-motorcycle) licence

Prior to the issue of a class C (car) or R (rider-motorcycle) licence, a learner licence must be obtained:

• 'C(L)' (car learner) licence
• 'R(L)(r)' (rider-motorcycle) learner licence
• 'R(r)' (rider-motorcycle) licence which includes an (‘e’) condition
